Ada's Mechanical Flying Horse

Although Ada Lovelace did not actually live at Newstead, I did want to include a piece for her.
At the age of 12, she considered a flying machine in the shape of a steam powered horse: “I have got a scheme,” she wrote to her mother, “to make a thing in the form of a horse with a steamengine in the inside so contrived as to move an immense pair of wings, fixed on the outside of the horse, in such a manner as to carry it up into the air while a person sits on its back."

There are two versions
with wings flapping: 30x28x30cm
with moving body: 29x18x27cm
Porcelain with Gold Lustre
